THE ADVANCED GROUP COURSE RESUMES IN SEPTEMBER 2022

CLASS 1: THURSDAY 15th SEPTEMBER 7-8.30PM

Term Dates: 15th /22nd /29th September /06th /13th / 20th October

When joining mid-term you only pay for remaining classes.  This course is for tournament standard players of any age with a playing strength or online or over-the-board rating from 1000 -1400 Elo.  Any students under-16 who fulfill the rating requirement are welcome to join with parental permission.

ABOUT THIS COURSE

A six-week online course for Advanced students rated 1400- 2000 ELO which continues our exploration of Queen’s Pawn Openings, Flank openings and Closed Games.  The focus of this term will be black defensive set-ups involving queenside fianchetto systems (i.e…b6 and …Bb7).  How should white players prepare against these solid, slippery systems?  Particular emphasis will be placed on understanding the tactical ideas and attacking plans for both sides in complex middlegames that arise from black opening systems such as the mainline Nimzo-Indian’s with 1…b6, The English Defence (1…b6) versus the English Opening (1.c4) and a selection of queenside fiachetto defensive set-ups in the Queen’s Gambit Declined.  We will also be exploring ways for white to try and play for an advantage against the super-solid and theoretically equal Queen’s Indian Defence.  Each week students will use the coaching portal to play out test positions explored in class and then analyse those games.

Classes include in-depth analysis of relevant student games from over-the-board tournaments or Chess Bud Portal Tournaments.

The group meets once a week for 90 minutes on THURSDAY EVENINGS from 7-8.30pm re-commencing 15th September 2022. The Online class is conducted using Zoom. On enrolling in the course you will be issued with your own personalised login to the Coaching Portal on the Chess Bud website (www.chessbud.ie) This log-in will remain active for as long as you are a Chess Bud student and for a month following the course. Your personalised login will enable you to play friendly games and tournaments with other class members, complete tactical challenges, take part in simultaneous training matches against IM Mark Quinn and review materials covered in class in your own time through playing through annotated games databases to re-enforce lessons.
