Jan/ February Term Tuesday Evenings (5 – 6 PM) – 6 weeks
This six week course is suitable for primary and secondary school students who are relatively new to the game and who know the basics (i.e. how to move pieces/ castle and when it is checkmate on the board but as yet they do not have any in-depth knowledge of opening strategies, middlegame plans or fundamental endgames. Students will be introduced to the most important King’s Pawn Openings for white and black and learn essential middlegame ideas, plans and tactical themes so they can build an opening repertoire that will provide a solid foundation for their play. Through specific exercises, students will learn how to start thinking strategically and how to develop their powers of visualisation. Classes are fun and relaxed but also challenging!
The course is generally suitable for students with an online rating on lichess or chess.com up to to 1000 Elo. A basic understanding of the fundamentals of the game and some prior playing experience either at home or in school is necessary for a student to be able to enjoy and get the most out of the course. This course is therefore not suitable for complete beginners.
Any student who has never yet played a game of chess online (e.g. on lichess,org or chess.com) will surpass this milestone in class on the first day using the Chess Bud Playing Portal to play a friendly game against another student or take on Mark in a class simul. The Chess Bud Portal has all chat disabled and is a safe and secure environment for students of all ages to play games and develop their chess ability.

COURSE FEE: 60 Euro
(10 Euro per student per class)
This course requires a minimum of 6 students and is limited to a maximum of 20 students. If cancelled, a full refund will be issued.
